Last thing you want to be doing, is messing with your equipment or finding a good spot when the light arrives.
Monitor the weather in advance. Ideal conditions usually feature some sort of cloud formation; especially big puffy clouds, as that helps add dramatic flair. Be mindful of the season, as each time of year offers distinct opportunities. For instance, spring is often filled with blooming wildflowers, while winter can bring a coating of snow to your surrounds. Or, like in the image above, autumn is an optimal time to visit Yosemite National Park as it can help showcase the brilliant yellow foliage within your foreground.
